Addison Cres

Don Mills

A dated corner-lot house in Don Mills stripped back entirely and rebuilt as a light-filled family home — with press coverage to match.

Back to all Projects

Corner lots are an opportunity and a problem at the same time. More exposure, more light, more street presence — and more of the house visible to everyone who walks past. This Addison Crescent home had all of the opportunity and none of the execution: a highly unusual, deeply dated interior sitting on one of the better lots in Banbury–Don Mills.

Dovetail took the house back to the frame, lowered the basement to gain full-height living space below grade, and rebuilt the interior around a completely new architectural vision from BAU AND ĆOS STUDIO, who led both the architecture and the interior design. The result is a house that reads as open, calm and modern, with light moving through it in a way the original never allowed.

Project Story

The Challenge.

The original interior was memorable, to put it gently — the kind of house that makes everyone on the crew stop and look on day one. Dismantling something that idiosyncratic while protecting what was worth keeping, and doing it on a corner lot in full view of the neighbourhood, made this one of the more interesting jobs on our books
